O maior problema de quem começa uma pequena empresa é se envolver muito no cotidiano dela e se esquecer de planejar o crescimento de médio e longo prazo. Um dos pilares para o crescimento é o planejamento, mas o ato de planejar é normalmente deixado de lado pela avalanche de problemas diários de uma empresa.

Para um planejamento eficaz, uma das variáveis mais importantes é o retorno sobre o investimento, ou seja, o quanto a empresa vai receber por executar um projeto de investimentos. O retorno sobre o investimento é fundamentalmente uma relação entre lucro e investimento, ou seja, a equação é ROI = Lucro/Investimento.

O problema em mensurar isso na prática é o descasamento de prazos: primeiro se investe e só depois o investimento retorna para a empresa em forma de lucro. Para se medir o ROI de longo prazo, é necessário levar em consideração o valor do dinheiro no tempo.

Para saber quanto o empresário receberá no médio e longo prazo por seus investimentos, são necessários dados sobre três parâmetros: os investimentos atualmente realizados, a taxa de crescimento do lucro esperado e a taxa de retorno utilizada para o cálculo.

Somente a perspectiva de crescimento da empresa pode informar ao empresário sobre a rentabilidade de médio prazo. Para isso, algumas perguntas precisam ser respondidas: quanto a empresa deve crescer nos próximos anos? Quanto está sendo investido? A margem de lucro vai se manter no médio prazo? A empresa entrará em novos mercados?

O empreendedor precisa reservar um tempo no dia-a-dia para planejar estrategicamente o crescimento da empresa, responder a essas perguntas, pois só assim será capaz de determinar as variáveis para o cálculo do retorno de médio e longo prazo.
